Clip Studio Paint, the illustration, comic manga, webtoon, and animation app from Celsys, sponsored the JUMP TOON AWARD, a vertical-scrolling manga award that began in May 2023 hosted by Shueisha Jump Group. Through this sponsorship, Celsys supported creators who wanted to draw manga.

The JUMP TOON AWARD is a manga award organized by the editorial department of Shueisha's JUMP TOON magazine to discover new talent and works in the world of vertical-scrolling manga. The grand prize includes a cash prize of 1 million yen, a copy of Clip Studio Paint, a guaranteed serialization in JUMP TOON(*), and publication of the winning work in Shonen Jump+. The first 100 applicants also received free copies of Clip Studio Paint.

The firstJUMP TOON AWARDreceived numerous entries not only from within Japan but also from overseas, resulting in a collection of amazing works full of personality. After a rigorous selection process, webtoon entries that showed the most potential were awarded prizes. The winners also received evaluation comments from Lee Hyun-seok, Representative Director of Red Seven Co., Ltd., Takanori Asada, Editor-in-Chief of JUMP TOON Editorial Department, and the JUMP TOON Editorial Department.

Celsys supported the Shonen Jump New Artist Seminar, which was hosted by the Shonen Jump editorial department of Shueisha in February 2023 and used Clip Studio Paint.
 

Manga artist Taro Hirai led the lecture, covering everything from the fundamentals of digital sketching with Clip Studio Paint to the production process and introductions to pen and brush settings.

The seminar was held twice, both online and offline, garnering approximately 80 people. Participants commented that it was helpful to learn many practical time-saving techniques and other skills, and that it was a worthwhile experience to participate, as it started from the basics. Mr. Saito, the deputy editor-in-chief of Weekly Shonen Jump, also stated that some participants said that their day-to-day motivation for writing comic drafts has increased.

In the August 2021 issue of Shueisha's shojo manga magazine "Ribon" (September issue), a reader giveaway campaign was held where 1,000 people could win a 6-month subscription to Celsys' manga, illustration, and animation creation app, “Clip Studio Paint PRO 1 device." (*)
 

Additionally, to coincide with the release of the September issue of Ribon, a follow and retweet campaign was held on the official Ribon Twitter account for 60 winners for four consecutive weeks, offering a chance to win a Wacom pen tablet and a 3-month subscription to Clip Studio Paint PRO 1 Device. (*)

The September issue of Ribon comes with a 10-piece "manga artist set" as a bonus, including analog art supplies such as pens, screen tones, and manuscript paper. There is also a booklet on how to draw digital illustrations titled "Let's draw Ribon-style color illustrations digitally!"

Shueisha and Celsys have entered into a business partnership aimed at supporting digital submissions for manga artists who create their works digitally. The two companies will begin their collaboration by adding Shueisha's exclusive manuscript paper to Celsys' manga creation app Clip Studio Paint and by providing a system for submitting works online to editorial departments and manga awards.
 

While many artists are creating manga in a digital environment, the traditional methods of submitting manuscripts and entries to manga awards, usually done in print media, have not been able to fully utilize the advantages of digital technology. Shueisha and Celsys will work together to establish a smoother submission flow and create an environment that would make manga easier to publish and distribute by leveraging the advantages of creating in a digital environment while also considering online and print distribution.
