In the main session, ACTF Secretariat Moderator Yasuhiro Todoroki and animation producer Manami Ishida joined by director Hiroaki Matsushima of studio MOTHER introduced actual examples of layer structure and timeline using Clip Studio Paint and the Toei Animation Digital Exposure Sheet.

Ishida stated, “We decided to use this format after discussions with the director, production, and in-house animation director. We sought out the simplest and easiest-to-understand process and since Clip Studio Paint is the most widely used application, including for outsourcing, this is the result. When we outsource, there are people who do not follow the format or still use traditional production, but all of our company productions are done in Clip Studio Paint. We ensure that the data is ready before passing it on to the next process.”

About the Toei Animation Digital Exposure Sheet
The Toei Animation Digital Exposure Sheet is timesheet editing software developed by Toei Animation and used in  demonstration tests conducted jointly by Toei Animation and Celsys, and follows paper timesheets. The digital exposure sheet information is linked with Clip Studio Paint, so the timeline information in Clip Studio Paint EX can be edited in the same format as a typical exposure sheet. This creates a workflow that animators are familiar with, in which timing and instructions are checked on a time sheet as they work. The Toei Animation Digital Exposure Sheet is distributed free of charge and can be used by individuals and corporations, and for commercial and non-commercial use.

Production without timesheets in Clip Studio Paint
-studio EIGHTCOLORS production of “Neko Oji: Salaryman reincarnated as a kitten!”-

The seminar by Hideo Uda, representative of studio EIGHTCOLORS INC., the first animation production company in Kochi Prefecture, joined by animator Hana Nagao, introduced production without timesheets using Clip Studio Paint. They introduced a case study of the production of the TV animation “Neko Oji: Salaryman reincarnated as a kitten!”

Currently, even with the ongoing digitization of animation production, traditional paper timesheets are still mixed in, making it difficult to use them together with digital processes. studio EIGHTCOLORS  explained that this production flow, suited to these circumstances, takes advantage of the characteristics of Clip Studio Paint without the need for paper timesheets.
