Sponsored CEDEC, Japan’s largest conference for video game deve

CEDEC (Computer Entertainment Developers Conference), organized by Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA), is Japan’s largest conference for sharing game-related technology and knowledge for developers in computer entertainment. Around 200 sessions were held over seven fields: engineering, production, visual arts, business & producing, sound, game design, and academic and infrastructure technology.

Celsys has sponsored CEDEC, a computer entertainment conference that focuses on video games, every year since 2019. Clip Studio Paint is used in game production as a tool in different areas such as character design. Sessions discussing Clip Studio Paint use cases were held with professionals in the game industry.

Celsys sponsored CEDEC 2025, which was held in July 2025. Planarico, the art director of Sumzap, Inc. and creator of many 2D graphics, led a session on visual design examples using Clip Studio Paint.

During the session, Planarico introduced the artwork production process for Paradox Live, a media mix project that is centered around voice dramas and live events. They explained how they use Clip Studio Paint in their production work, including sharing their favorite brushes and showing various functions such as 3D models, Liquify, and Puppet warp, all while using actual illustration examples. Planarico also covered their in-house techniques on rendering everything from a character’s body type to how to draw hands.

I feel that Clip Studio Paint is a globally indispensable tool for creating illustrations as it is relatively inexpensive, easy to install, and the app itself is light in terms of both operation and data. Along with all its features, it also has many materials and tutorials. Moreover, every update adds features that creators want, which makes me feel like it’s always becoming closer to the ideal working environment. I was able to dramatically improve the speed of supervising rough drafts thanks to the Liquify tool, which can edit multiple layers from Ver. 2.0, and Puppet warp, which was implemented in Ver. 4.0.
